Minors recaps 1 Sep 05

Portland:
Brian Sweeney gave up 3 runs in 7 innings as the Beavers beat Tucson 5-4. Sweeney gave up 9 hits and struck out 6 while giving up no walks. Scott Cassidy picked up his 10th save. Sitting out 3 games apparently cooled off Nick Trzesniak. He had only one hit in 4 trips to drop his average under 400 to .387. Bobby Scales and Dustin Delucchi each had 2 hits.

Lake Elsinore:
Once again High Desert and the Storm slugged it out with the Storm winning 8-5. Bret Bonvechio homered but Michael Johnson didnt as he was held hitless. Josh Howard, promoted from rookie league Arizona, collected 2 hits in his first game with Lake Elsinore. Leo Rosales picked up his 27th save.

Ft Wayne:
Cesar Ramos gave up 5 runs on 10 hits in just 5 innings as the Wizards lost to Lansing. Lf Josh Alley, lead off hitter, was on base 5 times(2 hits and 3 walks) but did not score a run. cf Yordy Ramarez had 3 hits and 2b Sean Kazmar contributed 2.

Eugene(short season)
Ben Krosschell pitched well, allowing 2 runs(1 earned) in 7 innings and struck out 7 but was not involved in the decision as Salem-Keizer came from behind to win 4-2. 3b Chad Steiner and cf Tim Turner each contributed 2 hits.

Arizona(rookie)
AZL completed with the Padres at 14-14, 4.0 games back of the AZL champion Giants. Javis Diaz finished 3rd with a .352 ba and tied for 3rd in stolen bases with 19. Kyle Blanks held on for the home run title with 7, he also finished tied for 10th in rbi with 30. Juan Jimenez led all pitchers in innings pitched with 79.1 and finished 4th in strikouts with 67. Ernesto Frieri finished 6th in strikeouts despite pitching just 46.1 innings. He had 59k's, was tied for most wins(7) and led in era 1.17(of pitchers with more than 20 ip).
