Minors recaps 23 Aug 05

Three Padres prospects show up on Baseball America's prospect hotsheet

11. Josh Barfield, 2b, Padres (Triple-A Portland)

Much like 2004, the Padres' top prospect got off to a slow start, batting just .251 over the season's first two months. Unlike 2004, Barfield has bounced back, batting .355 in 75 games since.

14. Ben Johnson, of, Padres (Triple-A Portland)
While hitting .251-23-85 in 2004 at Double-A Mobile, Johnson began to unleash the potential scouts had seen for years. This year, he's taken another step forward, batting .313/.397/.547 for Portland, including a .363-14-47 mark in his last 50 games.

18. Cesar Carrillo, rhp, Padres (Double-A Mobile)
In five Double-A starts, the 18th overall pick this June out of Miami has limited opposing batters to a .204 batting average to go along with just seven extra-base hits and seven walks.
